Verbal to Non-Verbal: The Art of the Audiovisual Translation in Resurrection: Ertugrul

This study examines meaning transfer in English-Urdu audiovisual translation, with a focus on the Urdu dubbing of the first episode of season 1 of Resurrection: Ertuğrul (2014-2019), a Turkish drama by Mehmet Bozdağ. It examines translation strategies in English subtitles and Urdu dubbing using Schjoldager’s (2008) micro-strategies taxonomy given in Understanding Translation. The findings disclose the use of six out of twelve strategies; however, the minimal use of Direct Transfer and Direct Translation signifies adaptations to enhance audience reception. This research highlights the cultural reconciliation and intricacies of linguistics in translation studies. It also contributes to translation studies and provides insights for future research on Urdu audiovisual translations. It underscores the impact of translation choices on cross-cultural communication and target audience engagement.
