Changes in IOP Following Cataract Surgery in Patients with Axial Hyperopia.

Introduction Hyperopia is a prevalent refractive disorder in both children and adults; in adults, it is recognized as a risk factor for primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Concerning glaucoma, in conjunction with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Aim of the study Assessment of the elevation of intraocular pressure in individuals with axial hyperopia. Patients and materials The research was done in the ophthalmology department of Minia University Hospital and Minia Insurance Hospital in Egypt. The research included 50 eyes from 50 individuals with an axial length of less than 21 mm. The patients were categorized into three classes based on axial length. Mild hyperopia with axial length ranging from 20 mm to 21 mm Moderate hyperopia with axial length ranging from 19mm to 20mm Severe hyperopia is characterised by an axial length of less than 19mm, whereas a cohort of 50 controlled individuals had axial lengths ranging from 21 to 23mm. Results there was significant decrease in IOP postoperative (13.7±2.04) compared to preoperative period (17.1± 2.1) (p value <0.05) among study group, While among control group, there was significant increase in IOP postoperative (12.6±1.88) compared to preoperative period (11± 0.98) (p value <0.05) conclusion Hyperopic individuals are at a greater risk of elevated intraocular pressure after cataract surgery compared to normal controls.
