[email protected]: Digitalization and sustainability to serve an intelligent campus – mobile app concept and prototype

One concept that has become a reality in several communities is the smart city. Embedded in this concept is a set of emerging technologies, that has led to significant improvements in the three dimensions of sustainability, including improvements in the environmental dimension, such as reducing resource consumption, as well as in the social dimension, with the participation of citizens in solving problems of community interest. As a community, this concept can be reflected in the Universities, boosting the concept of the smart campus. One factor that improves the smart city initiatives’ success relies on citizen participation in decisions. Analogously, it is possible to state that university community participation increases the success of smart campus solutions. These frontiers broken between technology and humans have led to the appearance of a new Society, Society 5.0, which also highlights the importance of citizen participation to increase their engagement with technology. This study aims to contribute to the smart campus concept ([email protected]), taking advantage of a digitalization ecosystem through a participatory community. For this goal, the present study proposes a mobile application that facilitates a participatory dynamic in favour of a sustainable and efficient campus. In methodological terms, this work started with a literature review, followed by listening to possible end-users, culminating in the concept and proposal of a prototype to support communities in the development of smart campuses through a participatory and collaborative model.
