Cultivating Cybersecurity Awareness Among Seafarers
The maritime industry utilises increasingly sophisticated technology to support its operations and has become entirely dependent on it. Much of this technology can be exploited by malicious actors, endangering maritime operations and crew. Despite efforts by regulatory organizations, such as the International Maritime Organization, to mandate awareness training, cybersecurity awareness among seafarers remains insufficient, thus posing a significant threat. Current approaches to raising awareness often overlook aspects unique to seafaring, diminishing their effectiveness. This paper introduces a framework aimed at cultivating cybersecurity awareness among seafarers by integrating the specific context of the maritime environment into awareness programmes.
