The Impact of Digital Divide on Women: A Rural Community Case
Women face significant barriers to economic development and gender equality since they are often marginalized and do not have access to modern opportunities. The effects of fewer opportunities for employment and education are felt disproportionately by women. On the other hand, information and communications technology (ICT), presents a chance for socioeconomic growth and empowerment. Modern ICT usage in the workplace and education is growing in significance. Knowledge of these technologies is crucial to address the global concerns outlined in the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. This current work aims to explore the impact of the digital divide on women from a rural community. In this qualitative case study data was gathered using semi-structured interviews. A purposive sampling strategy was used to identify the participants and content analysis was used to generate themes and their code occurrences. The findings of the work show that lack of adequate internet connectivity and access and data cost are the main challenges for this community. This study recommends governments and businesses invest in data costs by providing free Wi-Fi to rural communities.
