Residual Biomass Supply Chain digitalization: a theoretical framework to the information systems development

Lignocellulosic residual biomass is a resource with a lot of potential, with various applications, however, its logistical cost inherent to the supply chain, Residual Biomass Supply Chain (RBSC) make its exploitation reduced. At the same time, the value of using information systems to achieve competitiveness and sustainability has been proven, when well suited to the needs, obligating to a maximum accuracy in requirements development phase. Although there is some literature in this regard, its scarcity creates the need to develop work that systematizes the context and challenges of RBSC. Therefore, this work proposes a framework that shows the entire operation of recovering residual biomass as well as its players. Furthermore, it also presents a set of RBSC challenges that increase logistical costs share and make the recovery of these biomasses unfeasible. This framework aims to act as a support and starting point for the creation of digital systems for the RBSC.
