Experimental Dynamic Performance of the Extended Kalman Filter for Induction Motors
Induction motors (IM) are widely used in various industrial applications due to their robustness, reliability, and energy efficiency. To achieve optimal performance the IM requires the accurate monitoring of main parameters, like rotor speed, phase currents, and load torque. This paper analyses the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to estimate the rotor speed and other states of IM. The study highlights the importance of estimated rotor speed accuracy as a critical parameter in motor control and fault detection. A comparison between the actual and estimated speed is presented and a performance analysis for rapid speed changes is performed. The analysis highlights the strengths and weaknesses of EKF in maintaining accurate state estimates during transient conditions. Additionally, a comparison between real and measured currents is provided.
