Simulation-Based Integration-Verification-Validation-Quality (IVVQ) for Effective Use in Battlefield: A Neccesity to Measure Engineering Effort
In current air defense system architecture activities, defensive system-of-systems behavior modelling and evaluation is necessary to assess capability performance. In system architecture activities, emerging behavior may only be observed using real systems or simulations. In either case, there can be no guarantee to get an exhaustive overview of possible emerging behaviors in a constrained time, quality or resource budget. Indeed, simulation systems, either including real constituent system or not may be useful to get a prospective overview in system architecture evaluation. However, if systems engineering descriptive views contains representations of systems activities through operational scenarios in architecture frameworks NAF 4.0 or 3.1, it may not yet present satisfactory representations of environment or enemy prospective intent, in conflict with defensive constituent systems. On the other hand, simulation in normative frameworks such as DIS or HLA intend to prescribe modeling and evaluation of aggressive and defense algorithms assets, but leave the responsibility to architects to develop its own system category properties. This article presents suggestions of optimization models to evaluate the complexity of the set of IVVQ decision problems. It provides a model that connects operation-research and decision aid based systems engineering and technico-operational simulation in a seamless approach, all while respecting existing standards in systems architecture.
