Evaluation of Electrical Performance in Hoist Systems with Vector-Controlled Induction Motor Drives
Induction motor drives are critical components in heavy-duty industrial systems such as mills, hoists, fans, pumps, conveyer, wagons and compressors. The control technique of an induction motor drive plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficient operation of these systems. This paper presents an experimental analysis of the electrical parameters of a 110 kW, 1500 rpm asynchronous AC induction motor controlled via a vector control induction motor drive system. Specifically, a Simovert Master Drive variable speed drive is used to operate a hoist system with a 45-ton capacity. Key electrical parameters, including voltage, current, power, temperature, torque and speed, are measured from the induction motor drive and analyzed under varying load conditions - low, medium, and high at two distinct speed levels - low and high. The rated output speed is compared to the reference speed, while torque is analyzed and assessed under various load conditions to enhance the hoist systems safety and efficiency at low speed.
