System Efficiency Analysis of Energy Harvesting Sensor Enable Internet of Things Under Stochastic Data Traffic
Energy harvesting and energy consumption balancing for transmitting random traffic data is a critical issue in Sensor enabled Internet of Things (IoT) for successful operation of it. In this paper, an energy harvesting and consumption balance method for stochastic data traffic in sensor enabled IoT is presented to study steady state of the system which ensures at least minimum amount of harvesting energy should be available to transit random data traffic by a sensor. An energy harvesting system model considering arrival of energy unit following Gamma distribution is presented. Energy harvesting system efficiency is computed for analyzing its robustness with random traffic arrival. From the results, it is observed that the system can remains in steady state for longer duration and attains high efficiency if data rate of each sensor decreases.
