Introduction of Carbon Dopants and Novel Polymers for Enhancing the Electrochemical Performance of Li-Ion Batteries

Technology is moving towards smart and embedded electronics more and more. With the enhancements coming with the Internet of Things, Bluetooth Low energy and 5G/6G, many consumer electronics devices are becoming smaller and portable. Hence, simultaneous energy storage demand is growing significantly, and the next generation of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) must address critical limitations in energy capacity, mechanical flexibility, and durability to meet the evolving needs of these upcoming electronics. For instance, capacity enhancement and mechanical robustness are two essential properties that LIBs should possess for compatibility with future electronics. Hence in this research, we have investigated the enhancing role of SWCNT as a conductive additive. NMC811 was used as the active material and modification to the cathode composition (Ex: Active material 96% wt., Binder 1% wt., SWCNT 1% wt., carbon black 2% wt.) with a higher amount of active material loading was utilized. The introduction of SWCNT as a conductive additive can directly improve the capacity (by increasing the amount of active material) of the LIB while enhancing the electrochemical performance.
