Smart Strip: A Portable Saliva Based Device for Early Detection and Monitoring of Oral Health

Oral diseases like caries and gingivitis often develop unnoticed in their early stages, leading to a delayed diagnosis and treatment. To solve this problem, we have designed Smart Strip, which offers a portable and cost effective solution for continuous oral health monitoring. By analyzing saliva biomarkers through reactive strips and a mobile application, the developed device provides users with real time assessments and recommendations. The experimental results obtained in a laboratory testing show that the color changes in both pH and nitrite test strips in the presence of different saliva conditions, which is consistent with established chemical reactions underlying their functionality. These outcomes validate in a laboratory environment the reliability and effectiveness of the test strips in detecting pH variations and nitrite presence. Smart Strip encourages active oral care, helping the users to maintain a better dental health through early detection and preventive actions.
