Hybrid Power Generation System Utilizing Waste Energy with Boost Converter and Inverter-Based Control

Power generation from waste, also known as Waste-to-Energy (WtE), involves converting municipal, industrial, or agricultural waste into electricity or heat. Common methods include incineration, gasification, and anaerobic digestion. However, existing technologies face challenges such as complex waste segregation, emissions control, and lower efficiency compared to conventional power sources. To overcome these challenges, this study presents hybrid power generation system that efficiently convert waste energy into usable electrical power through the integration of Boost Converter and inverter-based control. The power generation from waste unit provides the initial power source, which is then converted from Alternating Current (AC) to Direct Current (DC) by the diode bridge rectifier. A boost converter increases the rectified DC voltage to the required level for stable power supply and efficient system operation. Additionally, a storage battery is incorporated to improve consistency and maintain power demands throughout variations in waste energy supply. Finally, this work is implemented by using a MATLAB 2021a Simulink software. This study also highlights that the DC-DC boost converter achieves an impressive 96% efficiency, significantly improving the conversion of waste energy into usable electrical power.
