An Indoor Mobility Assistance System for Perception Enhancement of the Visually Impaired

Effective perception of environmental information is essential for visually impaired individuals during indoor navigation. Currently, visually impaired people face challenges such as limited spatial awareness and inaccurate path following when moving indoors. To address these challenges, this paper introduces an indoor mobility assistance system designed to provide spatial information feedback that better meets the needs of blind users, helping them navigate indoor spaces more easily. We developed a system prototype and invited participants to evaluate its effectiveness in a controlled laboratory environment. The results indicate that the proposed system significantly enhances users' perception of the indoor environment, enabling them to navigate successfully. The system provides a more effective and user-friendly solution for indoor mobility of visually impaired people.
