SecureXfer: Secure NFC RSA Mobile-based Framework for Digital Signing of Documents

In an era where secure and efficient data transfer is paramount, leveraging mobile technologies for authentication and communication has become essential. However, most digital signing solutions and platforms rely solely on web-based document signing methodologies, making them susceptible to various attacks and computationally demanding. This paper proposes SecureXfer, a hybrid framework for secure and efficient mobile-based digital signing of documents using Near Field Communication (NFC) tap and Bluetooth technology. The Signee and Signer mobile devices tap to communicate over NFC Host Card Emulation (HCE) mode. They first mutually authenticate each other using RSA-based certificates, and then the Signer digitally signs the document with the Signee device. NFC provides the locality of devices and makes Man-in-the-Middle (MiTM) attacks difficult. This mobile-focused framework enhances secure digital document signatures by leveraging improved cryptographic methods, reducing delay, as shown through comparative analysis with existing web-based solutions. The paper presents a security analysis for the SecureXfer framework and a performance comparison with existing digital signing solutions related to communication and computational cost. SecureXfer is an effective solution for in-person digital signing of documents on mobile devices, offering a faster, more efficient alternative to web-based systems.
