A Single-Substrate-Layered Complex-Amplitude Metasurface and its Application for Low Sidelobe Array Antenna
A novel metasurface (MS) unit-cell is proposed to independently manipulating the amplitude and phase of the transmissive linearly polarized electromagnetic wave simultaneously. The unit-cell consists of two metallic patterned layers printed on both sides of a substrate, which can achieve amplitude and phase modulations by rotating the metallic patterns, and adjusting the radius of the patterns, respectively. In addition, a novel method for reducing the sidelobe level (SLL) of antenna array based on the MS has been proposed. The transmissive amplitude and phase distributions of the MS are firstly calculated to match the designed goals, and the low sidelobe beam can be generated by loading the proposed MS on the antenna array. Numerical and experimental verification is performed using a 10-unit line array equipped with the proposed MS operating at 10.5 GHz.
