SecDEE: Lightweight and Secure Communication Framework for Automotive Domain-Centralized E/E Architecture

With the development of intelligence and networking, the domain-centralized Electrical/Electronic (E/E) architecture has become the preferred choice for automotive systems because of its high bandwidth and low latency. However, this evolution makes automotive networks vulnerable to malicious attacks, potentially leading to system failures. Existing cryptography-based security frameworks are typically designed for a specific type of automotive network (e.g., CAN/CAN-FD) and do not fully consider the practical application scenarios of automotive E/E architectures. Moreover, these frameworks primarily support one-to- one communication while overlooking the security requirements of one-to-many communication. To address these issues, we propose SecDEE, a lightweight security framework for automotive domain-centralized E/E architectures. SecDEE leverages the structural characteristics of domain-centralized E/E architectures, using a gateway as the central node to provide security for both one-to-one and one-to-many communications. To evaluate the performance, we deploy SecDEE on an NXP LS1028 platform with ARM Cortex-A72 cores. Experimental results demonstrate that SecDEE out- performs the state-of-the-art security framework in terms of computational and communication overhead.
