Complex Sliding Averaging Control for Three-Phase Power Converters

This article addresses the implementation of complex-valued sliding mode controllers in three-phase power converters. The work includes the design and experimental assessment of two different strategies. The methods provide easy-to-code algorithms with a low computational burden, retain the sliding mode properties as robustness and fast transient response, and do not require any additional processing often used to decouple the dynamics of the three-phase system. The article includes the description of the algorithms and a detailed analysis of the proposed implementations. In addition, the performance of the methods is compared in numerical simulations, and the algorithms are experimentally tested in a three-phase inverter. The advantages of the proposed approaches, with respect to traditional sliding mode controllers, are that they do not require any decoupling stage, are easy to implement, and use zero vectors.
