Design and Control of a Novel Position-Sensorless Wireless Permanent Magnet AC Motor

As a systemseamlessly unifying energy and information, wireless motors facilitate remote control for the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical power. Nevertheless, currentwirelessmotor systems heavily rely on position sensors and primary-secondary communication, making thembulky and sensitive to communication delays. To address these challenges, this article introduces an innovative position-sensorless compact wireless permanent magnet ac (PMAC) motor with printed circuit board (PCB) coils. Initially, angle and speed are estimated using primary-side high-frequency current, eliminating the need for motor-side encoders or communication. It further enables concurrent energy and control data transmission through three independent wireless power transfer (WPT) channels, offering comprehensive primary-side control without additional motor-side circuits or auxiliary power supplies. Positionsensorless speed feedback control is integrated into the system. Additionally, PCB coils are designed to further enhance system compactness and ensure uniformity in coil parameters. Experimental validation on an 800 rpm, 1.5 N.m PMAC wirelessmotor demonstrates position-sensorless operation with 83.6% efficiency under full load and maximum speed conditions, accompanied by precise position-speed estimation and a smooth startup process.
