Scattering Center Modeling of Complex Targets Under Cross Polarization

Cross-polarized scattering characteristics play a critical role in target recognition and anti-jamming applications. However, existing scattering center (SC) models predominantly focus on co-polarized scattering, with limited research on SC modeling under cross polarization. To address this gap, this article proposes a method for modeling the SCs of perfectly electrically conducting (PEC) complex targets under cross polarization. The primary scattering and contributing regions under cross polarization are first identified based on the induced currents obtained from full-wave numerical computation. The contributing structures are subsequently extracted, and a mathematical model for cross-polarized scattering characteristics is formulated based on a detailed scattering mechanism analysis. A parameter estimation procedure is then applied to establish the cross-polarized SC model. Numerical validations based on full-wave numerical computation results demonstrate that the proposed model accurately predicts high-resolution imaging features of complex targets under cross polarization.
