Design of ship vibration monitoring system based on fiber Bragg grating sensor technology

Abstract Most of the existing online monitoring systems for ship vibration are equipped with electrical sensors for a single device or object, and there are many shortcomings, such as weak resistance to electromagnetic interference, single function, and poor scalability. The rapid development of new fiber optic sensing technologies is making it possible to conduct online vibration monitoring for a wide range of mechanical equipment and hull structures. In this paper, a ship vibration online monitoring system based on fiber optic sensing technology is studied. The fiber Bragg grating sensors are used to form a quasi-distributed sensing network. Multiple high-speed fiber grating demodulator is used for signal demodulation and data resolution. The signals are uploaded to the storage server via Gigabit Ethernet and realized by the server and the host computer software program for signal processing, data management, and centralized monitoring and alarm functions. The vibration monitoring system designed for a certain type of ship has 20 optical paths, including 228 vibration measurement points and 78 temperature measurement points, with a synchronous sampling frequency of 3 kHz. The system has the advantages of simple wiring, strong anti-electromagnetic interference, large capacity, and good scalability.
