Green inhibitors for C-steel corrosion in acidic environment

It is known that the extracts of most natural plants contain many chemicals that can be used in various fields, whether industrial or medical. In this study, the organic compounds present in the angelica plant were extracted using a solvent (hexane) and the extract was characterized using some spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, NMR) to determine the nature of the active groups in the extract. After that, the extract was used as an inhibitor to study the corrosion of carbon steel type (N80) in an acidic medium at different temperatures. The results proved that the inhibitor plays a role in preventing the corrosion process. It was also noted that the speed of corrosion decreases with increasing concentration of the inhibitor, due to the formation of a protective adsorbent layer. The inhibitor on the surface of the alloy repels corrosive particles and forms a repellent wall, which reduces the current and therefore the rate of corrosion and increases the resistance to polarization. Corrosion increases with increasing temperatures, because increasing temperature leads to an increase in the number of molecules that have kinetic energy equal to or greater than the activation energy.
