The freezing effect evaluation of artificial ground freezing base on the longitudinal temperature rise rate

Accurate evaluation of freezing effects is the primary requirement of artificial ground freezing (AGF) methods. However, the traditional solution method relies too much on temperature measuring pipes' data. Therefore, it is difficult to reflect the temperature field distribution in the entire frozen reinforcement area. This study proposes a new indicator, longitudinal temperature rise rate (LTRV), to characterize the refrigeration efficiency in AGF, and the functional relationship between the LTRV of the frozen pipe and the frozen curtain formed by the frozen tube was established. In the end, the analytical solution for the temperature distribution incorporating the LTRV was established. Considering the lack of detailed geological data in engineering practice, a simplified algorithm for the solution was proposed and verified. Based on the results of a freezing project in Guangzhou, China, this analytical approach demonstrated precise calculation of the freezing effect and temperature distribution compared to traditional methods.
