Integrated Techniques to Support Decision-making in Production Planning and Control
This paper explores the application of integrated techniques to support decision-making in production planning and control (PPC), covering critical domains such as facility resource planning, capacity planning, replenishment planning, production planning, scheduling, and inventory management. The research highlights the methodological foundations of integrated techniques, which combine knowledge-based methods (KBM) and data-driven methods (DDM), also known in literature as hybrid methods. In the scope of PPC, hybrid methods can deliver more robust, flexible, and cost-effective solutions for complex manufacturing environments, especially in contexts of high uncertainty and multi-objective demands. The paper provides insights into integrated techniques combining KBM and DDM to address specific PPC problems. The integrated techniques will be a foundation for developing hybrid methods to address PPC in complex supply chains characterized by demand variability, supply uncertainty, high process interdependence, product customization, and reduced market lead times, ultimately supporting real-time decision-making.
