A Practical Approach to Video Capture and Control Using FPGA and Cortex-A7

In most real-time video processing applications, cameras are used to capture video and transmit it to embedded systems or Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) for processing, which is then converted into a suitable format supported by the display. In this scenario, the interface between the camera and the display device plays a crucial role in the quality of captured and displayed video, respectively. This article introduces a design method for a video capture control system that combines FPGA and RK3399. The core of the system uses a Cortex-A7 processor in the ARM-V7 architecture to control the FPGA chip, while selecting EPM7128 as the main control chip. This design utilizes Xilinx's Zynq series video decoding chips for video data capture, demonstrating the adaptability and flexibility of the system. The software and hardware design and implementation scheme of this efficient, low-power video capture control system are elaborated. In addition, programming simulation results using VHDL language verify the stability and reliability of the system under high-speed operating conditions. Final experiments show that the system is functionally applicable, reliable, and performs well, meeting the usage requirements.
