The Importance and Impact of Adaptability for the Success of Manufacturing Companies and Production-Related Service Providers in a Rapidly Changing World

The adaptability of manufacturing companies and production-related service providers in Germany is a key factor for their long-term success and competitiveness. Constant market changes, such as changing customer needs, digitalization and new competitors, require products and services to be adapted quickly. In addition, technological progress, particularly through automation and digital manufacturing, is having a significant impact on the industry. Companies that actively use this progress can continue to optimize their production processes and develop innovative products and services in the future. The results presented in this publication from a company survey of 100 companies in Germany show that 95 percent of respondents recognize a need for projects to increase adaptability. However, obstacles to the actual implementation of such projects are often a lack of human and financial resources as well as a lack of an overall strategy. Less successful companies are particularly affected by this. The survey results also show that successful companies have stronger support from management and more frequently define clear responsibilities. Agile principles are also valued more highly in these companies. The results underline the need to adapt organizational structures to rapidly changing conditions and promote a culture of collaboration in order to remain competitive in the long term.
