Implementation of Insulated Ground Shield Wire on 150 kV Transmission Lines
Based on historical data on disruptions in PLN West Java transmission, 51.8% of disruptions were caused by natural factors throughout 2024. This is one of the concerns in terms of mitigating disruptions due to nature, especially lightning. Various methods have been applied in transmission lines. One of the methods used is Insulated Ground Shield Wire (IGSW). This study discusses the implementation of IGSW in several locations with different characteristics. In principle, IGSW consists of an insulator system, shield wire that is isolated from the tower body and grounding system. With this method, the overvoltage caused by lightning currents in the transmission system is maintained so that it does not pass through the tower body, so that it does not cause back flash over caused by overvoltage that exceeds the basic insulation level (BIL) of the insulator. In this study, IGSW was applied at three different transmission tower sites. The results indicated that the tower equipped with IGSW experienced no interference, confirming its effective performance.
