(3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane-functionalized COF-based coating with high adhesive strength for controlling fat oil and grease deposition in the sewer system

• APTES-functionalised COF offers high surface area and water stability. • APTES-COF epoxy hybrid coating has a high mechanical strength (86.5 MPa). • COF-epoxy coating has a high adhesive strength of 8.5 MPa. • COF based epoxy coating control corrosion by 95 %. • COF based coating reduces fats, oils and grease deposits by over 78 %. In this study, we investigate the incorporation of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs into an epoxy matrix to develop a hybrid coating with superior water stability and mechanical properties. The COFs were functionalized with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane to enhance compatibility with the epoxy matrix, leading to a robust hybrid coating. The resulting coating exhibited a remarkable tensile strength of 86.5 MPa and excellent adhesion strength of 8.5 MPa. These enhanced properties contribute to the hybrid coating’s high efficacy in reducing the deposition of fats, oils, and greases (FOG) in sewer systems by 78 %. Additionally, the coating demonstrated over 95 % effectiveness in corrosion prevention, highlighting its potential for long-term durability in aggressive environments such as sewer systems.
