Determinants of the ICT Skill Levels of the Secondary Level School Teachers of Bangladesh
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a crucial role in the teaching-learning process in the 21st-century education system. The implementation of ICT In the curriculum and teaching-learning process largely depends on the ICT skill levels of the teachers. For this reason, the determinants of the ICT skills levels of secondary school teachers were explored in the study. A total of 367 secondary-level school teachers participated in the study and were selected randomly following the cluster sampling method, where each division of Bangladesh was considered one cluster. A survey instrument was developed with demographics and digital-related information, measuring ICT skill levels through a 5-point Likert-type questionnaire. SPSS analysis (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H Test) was run to determine the variation among the ICT skill levels concerning demographic and digital-related information. The result showed that gender, ownership of a computer/laptop, frequency of using a computer, training on ICT, internet access, and frequency of using the internet influence the ICT skill levels of the participants. On the contrary, there was no significant variation among the participant's age groups in the context of ICT skill levels. Therefore, these determinants should be considered when estimating and taking actions to improve the ICT skill levels of teachers in the educational context of Bangladesh. The study findings would help develop the policy and guidance that can elevate the implementation of ICT in education.
