Approaching Drug Choices and Challenges for the Management of Hypertension
ypertension remains a leading cause of disability worldwide, and effectively lowering blood pressure (BP) with antihypertensive medications is among the most impactful interventions available to clinicians and patients to reduce cardiovascular and dementia risk. 1 Historically, US clinicians relied upon updated JNC High Blood Pressure Guidelines, transitioning to the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology guidelines in 2017 2 to provide periodic updates as scientific knowledge advances.Advances in CVD risk prediction models, inpatient hypertension management, treatment strategies during pregnancy, and combination antihypertensive therapy have emerged, necessitating an updated recommendations to optimize drug therapy for hypertension management.
