Bridging Nigeria's Energy Gap: The Impact of Aradel Holdings’ Modular Refinery on Local Energy Supply and Economic Development
Abstract Nigeria faces significant challenges in its energy sector, including inadequate refining capacity and heavy reliance on imported fuels. Modular refineries present avenues for meeting the growing energy demands. This paper examines the potential of Aradel Holdings’ modular refinery in addressing Nigeria's energy gap, meeting the local energy supply needs, and promoting economic development. The Aradel modular refinery is an 11,000 barrels/day facility producing five key refined products. This work explores the operational advantages of modular refineries, such as lower initial investment costs, and ease of deployment and operation in comparison to conventional refineries. The paper demonstrates that modular refineries, like Aradel Refinery, offer practical and effective avenue for meeting Nigeria's energy needs. The successful operations of Aradel's refinery, diversifies and stabilizes the local energy supply, underscoring the efficacy of modular refinery best practices in bridging Nigeria's energy gap.
