Continuous Improvement Mindset as a Panacea for Excellence in Project Delivery – A Case Study of Shell Nigeria Deep Water Projects
Abstract The Continuous Improvement (CI) culture has been pivotal in achieving profitable and sustainable outcomes for Shell Companies in Nigeria. The Shell Nigeria Deep Water Projects (DWP) organization has deployed CI mindset in project delivery to achieve optimal use of resources, cost savings and schedule optimization. The CI mindset and practices have galvanized a culture of waste elimination, collaboration, and sustainable growth. The process of value creation starts with ideas generation that is based on leveraging different technical and commercial levers to do more for less. Deep dive sessions are held to validate the ideas and define scope of resulting initiatives. The execution of initiatives is supported by a weekly cadence to keep the implementation on track and to realize the value in a timely manner. The application of CI mindset in oil and gas projects’ delivery has enabled efficient project execution and replication of good practices, ultimately contributing to excellence in project delivery.
