Too many supporters…!

We have too many supporters and not enough advocates! What do I mean? By way of example, when I worked in the NYS Senate, I was in a meeting with staff and Senators deciding what issues we would push in an upcoming negotiation. As we came to one issue, every Senator said they supported the position that staff had laid out. However, no Senator said that they would not vote for the final legislation unless that issue was addressed. So, we moved on to other issues and that one was not part of the final package. As it relates to drug policy, while we always need supporters, we need more folks who will not support a piece of legislation unless our issues are addressed!
