Emerging microRNA biomarkers in sepsis-associated acute kidney injury: A comprehensive review of miR-22-3p and miR-452
Background: Sepsis is a critical consequence of trauma and burns that frequently leads to acute kidney injury (AKI) with substantial considerable clinical challenges due to its high morbidity and mortality however this disease isn’t well understood. Nevertheless, medical advancements, the absence of specific and sensitive biomarkers hinders early diagnosis and effective treatment. Small non-coding RNAs known as MicroRNAs (miRNAs), have crucial roles in the messenger RNAs translation and gene regulation in a diversity of endogenous vital processes. Their regulatory roles in inflammatory responses, apoptosis and kidney injury, highlights their potential as novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in sepsis associated AKI. Their differential expression pattern provides valuable insight into SA-AKI pathophysiology and offers potential for early detection, risk stratification, and targeted therapeutic approaches. Aim: assessment of the serum miR-22-3p and miR-452 biomarkers in sepsis-associated acute kidney injury and their value as diagnostic and prognostic non-invasive biomarkers in SA-AKI .Keywords: Sepsis, MicroRNAs, Acute kidney injury, Biomarkers.
