Multidevice versus mirror-based system for 360-degrees fringe projection profilometry
Most existing fringe projection three-dimensional reconstruction methods provide only a partial view of the object under study. However, several important applications require reconstructing the whole surface of the object. The entire surface of an object can be digitized by using multiple camera-projector pairs or a single camera-projector system and flat mirrors. In this work, a profilometer composed of three camera-projector pairs is tested in simulation for full object reconstruction and its performance is compared with its equivalent mirror-based profilometer. The advantages of both setups in terms of calibration simplicity and reconstruction accuracy are discussed, providing a guide for full object reconstruction.
