A fiber-optic LiDAR sensor for navigation in confined spaces
This work proposes a design for an endoscopic scanning light detection and ranging (LiDAR) system based on a fiber optic imaging bundle (FOIB), using a commercial single point amplitude modulated continuous wave (AMCW) sensor. The direction of the output beam is controllable by adjusting the position of the light coupling into the FOIB. The backscattered light of the specimen is captured by an individual receiving fiber and is transmitted back to the sensor. Calibrating the system by acquiring a lookup table enables the mm-precise reconstruction of a step target. Limitations of the system and further improvements are discussed.
