Non-Destructive Quality Evaluation of Concrete Through Hyperspectral Imaging Analysis

The quality and performance of construction materials are critical to the structural integrity and sustainability of buildings and infrastructure. Traditional methods of evaluation involve destructive testing, which may be accurate but not suitable for real-time or in-situ assessment. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) offers a non-destructive alternative, which works on detailed spectral information across a wide range of wavelengths. This study uses HSI for comparative analysis and quality evaluation of concrete. Samples with different compositions and curing times were analyzed using multiple signatures that were taken using a portable spectroradiometer. Processed spectral data were analyzed using SAM and SID to extract significant features. These features were further correlated with compressive strength. The findings suggest that HSI can effectively identify unique spectral signatures associated with different hydration stages. Further, it was used to predict compressive strength and detect anomalies. The results provide a realtime, non-destructive method of assessing material quality. Integrating HSI with analytical techniques holds significant potential for enhancing quality control. It can ensure the durability of concrete, contributing to the advancement of construction material science.
