A Wideband Ring Slot Antenna for 5G Applications

A wideband design of the proposed ring slot antenna with circular shape for 5G applications is presented. The antenna features a single circular ring slot, optimized to provide wideband radiation coverage from 2.2 GHz to 7.4 GHz band. The ground plane has a circular ring at the bottom layer, and the single microstrip feedline is placed on the top of substrate which has a size of 50 x 50 mm and a thickness of 1.6 mm. The bandwidth and the gain are improved by incorporating two parasitic strips into the feedline. A wide bandwidth of impedance-matching demonstrates 106.2% a fractional bandwidth. The proposed wideband antenna has a peak gain reaches 3.9 dBi at 2.4 GHz, 4.2 dBi at 3.5 GHz, and 1.3 dBi at 5 GHz, respectively.
