Novel Radial Combiners with Integrated Low Pass Filtering Function

This paper presents a novel methodology to design compact radial combiners with integrated low pass filtering function. Such devices find application in high power systems that utilize solid-state high-power amplifiers to achieve very high power levels. The novel design integrates low pass filtering section within the radial combiner and provides a compact design with clean out of band emissions. The design follows classical design rules of low pass filters and integrates it within the design methodologies of radial combiners which rely on impedance transformation. The proposed design helps in integrating more functional blocks in a single module thus reducing component counts and system complexity. A design example is discussed in detail followed by an experimental prototype which was fabricated and tested demonstrating good results without any tuning.
