Small-Scale Indoor Navigation using Bluetooth RSSI Fingerprinting
Indoor positioning systems (IPS) have gained popularity due to their ability to overcome GPS limitations and improve indoor space management. Bluetooth is a popular indoor positioning technology that relies on radio signals for localization, with Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) localization being a common approach. This project aims to develop an indoor navigation system using Bluetooth RSSI fingerprinting, using ESP32 LOLIN32 Lite boards as Bluetooth signal transmitters and collecting RSSI data. The collected data is transmitted to the NETPIE platform via Wi-Fi and stored in CSV format to create a positioning database. The system retrieves real-time RSSI values and the destination name, processing the data to determine the user's current location and optimal path. The positioning performance was more accurate at points located in closed rooms and farther away from other points compared to those in the same open area or located near other points. The navigation system successfully calculated accurate and optimal paths from the current location to the designated destination.
