A 60-GHz RadCom Down-Converter in 22-nm CMOS FDSOI for Short-Range Hand Gesture Sensing and High-Data-Rate Proximity Communication

This paper presents a novel 60 GHz down-converter for joint radar and communication (RadCom) systems, designed for mobile devices. It integrates both functions on a single chip. In radar mode, it achieves a conversion gain of 14 dB with 11 GHz bandwidth and consumes 42.5 mW. The 1 dB input compression point is −28 dBm, and the minimum noise figure is 10 dB. In communication mode, it achieves 10 Gbps OOk data reception with a pseudorandom binary sequence of length 215-1. It meets USB 3.1 standard with a sensitivity of −29 dBm at 5 Gbps and a consumption of 34.8 mW. The chip area is 1.75 mm2. The results also shows successful hand gesture sensing.
