A 19.3-to-27.3GHz Area-Reuse Double Dual-Core Complementary Class-F-1 VCO with Non-Interfering Multiple Resonances Achieving 203.3dBc/Hz FoMT and 213.3dBc/Hz FoMTA

In this paper, an area-reuse double dual-core complementary Class- <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathrm{F}^{-1}$</tex> VCO with non-interfering multiple resonances is proposed, which achieves wide FTR, high FoM, and compact chip area, simultaneously. The area-reuse technique with non-interfering multiple resonances ensures the independent operation of double dual-core oscillator, thus broadening the frequency range with a miniaturized chip size. Prototyped in a 40nm CMOS technology, the VCO has a 34.3% FTR from 19.3 to 27.3 GHz. Abstract

In this paper, an area-reuse double dual-core complementary Class- <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathrm{F}^{-1}$</tex> VCO with non-interfering multiple resonances is proposed, which achieves wide FTR, high FoM, and compact chip area, simultaneously. The area-reuse technique with non-interfering multiple resonances ensures the independent operation of double dual-core oscillator, thus broadening the frequency range with a miniaturized chip size. Besides, the proposed oscillator has large <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2^{\text{nd}}$</tex> harmonic impedance which effectively shapes the waveforms for the phase noise reduction. Prototyped in a 40nm CMOS technology, the VCO has a 34.3% FTR from 19.3 to 27.3 GHz.
