Flexural performance of basalt fiber reinforced recycled aggregate concrete subjected to sulfate corrosion
Recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) offers an efficient method for recycling and utilizing solid waste. This study investigates the mechanical performance of basalt fiber (BF) reinforced RAC components under sulfate corrosion through four-point flexural tests. The study focuses on the effects of BF volume fractions (0 %, 0.2 %, 0.4 %) and corrosion durations (0d, 42d, 84d, 126d, 168d) on the beams' flexural properties. The results indicate that the incorporation of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) does not alter the failure mode of RAC beams. However, the addition of BF and the increase of corrosion durations significantly increase the deformation at failure. Under uncorroded conditions, the ultimate load of RAC beams is increased by 8.8 % compared to that of natural aggregate concrete (NAC) beams when the BF content is 0.2 %. Additionally, when the BF content is 0.4 %, the energy absorption capacity is enhanced by 110.3 % compared with B 0 R. Moreover, sulfate corrosion deteriorates the flexural properties of RAC beams. However, it takes longer to show significant deterioration on BF reinforced RAC beams. Finally, a design method for the flexural capacity of RAC beams under sulfate corrosion has been established. The theoretical values align well with the experimental data.
