Condition of pile piers of bridge structures in Perm region

Based on the open sources analysis, articles, and dissertations it is concluded that there is no statistics on pile piers of road bridges on the topic of defects and damages. In order to solve this problem, the results of a survey, periodic inspections on bridges, which are located on the roads of Perm region and have pile piers, were enquired. In the course of information processing defects and damages of 411 piers were analysed, as well as their main technical characteristics, such as the number of the standard plan, according to which the pier was designed, the year of operational commissioning, design loads and height. The paper also analysed the main indicators of bridges: minimum, maximum and average length of engineering structures and their width. Additionally, foreign and domestic literature sources on the topic of defects and damages were analysed in this paper. The pile piers were divided into characteristic zones such as top, middle and bottom, top, bottom and side surfaces of the nozzle, backwall, side walls and bearing block. During the analysis, the position of the defects and damages were identified and according to the type, they were recorded in the corresponding group. In total, four large groups of defects and damages were identified: sinks and spalling, moistening marks, cracks and corrosion of reinforcement. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, it was found that: sinks and spalling were most common in the middle of the pile height, soaking marks on the top surface of the nozzle, cracks of different nature on the side surface of the nozzle, and reinforcement corrosion in the middle of the pile height.
