This study explored the Guimaras Culture Map and its role in the DepEd Indigenization and Localization Program in the province of Guimaras, spanning from 1854 to the present. It also aimed to present a comprehensive chronology of events that helped shape and develop the cultural map of this island province. The study utilized the historical method of research. Techniques employed included: (a) examination of documents and numerical records; (b) collection of oral testimonies and oral histories; (c) investigation of cultural relics such as churches, trails, buildings, wharves, schools, and other significant local landmarks; and (d) interviews with individuals who participated in or witnessed the events or processes under investigation, including rural residents, former barangay officials, professionals, descendants of ancestral house owners, caretakers, and priests. The findings provided insights into the historical development of Guimaras, discussed across various periods- Spanish, American, Japanese, Post-War, and the Modern era.Additionally, the study documented both tangible cultural assets (e.g., churches, trails, buildings, wharves, schools) and intangible cultural heritage (e.g., rituals, practices, local stories, legends, beliefs, relationships, and celebrations).Furthermore, the study highlighted how the Culture Map can support the DepEd Indigenization and Localization Program by helping students appreciate the historical and cultural significance of structures built in the province from 1854 to the present. Through cultural mapping, these cultural assets can be identified and preserved, guiding future policy formulation aimed at protecting themand ensuring a vibrant cultural legacy for future generations of Guimaras nons.
