Designing a drowning prevention program for children using virtual reality: A design case
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths worldwide, especially among adolescents, and has become a serious public health problem. However, the existing forms of drowning prevention safety education are relatively simple, and there is a lack of innovative and diversified intervention methods. In order to solve this problem, this study tried to introduce virtual reality (VR) technology and designed a drowning safety education program based on VR environment, covering three key links: first, improving adolescents’ awareness and attitude away from waters; the second is to enhance the ability of adolescents to save themselves and others in drowning situations; The third is to simulate the emergency rescue skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in the golden time after drowning. The purpose of this study is to fill the gap in the existing forms of education, explore the application of virtual reality in drowning prevention and control education, and hope to enhance the safety awareness and emergency response ability of adolescents through more immersive and interactive teaching methods, and provide new prevention and control strategies and practical basis for reducing drowning accidents.
