Implementation of a SWIPT-assisted Bistatic Backscatter Prototype with Long-Range Capability
Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) as well as backscatter communication are both promising paradigms for future Internet of Things (IoT) applications. To realize reliable data transmission and sustainable operation of IoT terminal devices, this work proposes a SWIPT-assisted bistatic backscatter system and derives the signal models under both operating modes. Based on the Electronic Product Code (EPC) Class1 Generation2 protocol, we propose detailed design schemes for the backscatter tag and the reader receiver. Finally, with a transmit power of 30 dBm, the system achieves a charging distance of up to 8 meters and a backscatter communication distance of up to 30 meters, validating the feasibility of the proposed design. Therefore, SWIPT as well as bistatic backscatter can be regarded as key technologies for large-scale deployment, long-term operation, and long-range communication of future IoT end devices.
