Modeling Method for Dynamic Hysteresis and Loss Characteristics of Soft Magnetic Materials Under DC Bias

Direct current (DC) bias is a common condition for soft magnetic materials in power electronics, significantly affecting their magnetization and energy loss behavior. To study this, magnetic properties under varying DC bias levels were measured using a dedicated experimental setup. The static hysteresis loops under DC bias were then simulated using the Jiles–Atherton (J-A) model to evaluate its accuracy in representing static magnetic behavior. Considering the limitations of existing loss models—particularly in treating residual losses under DC bias—the influence of DC bias on different magnetic loss components was analyzed. A modified loss separation model was developed by fitting the statistical parameters associated with residual losses. Finally, simulated dynamic hysteresis loops and total core loss results were compared with experimental data, confirming that the proposed model effectively captures material behavior under DC bias. This provides a solid theoretical basis for the design and optimization of magnetic components operating under such conditions.
