Navigating the Landscape of AI Literacy: Insights from a Decade of Research (2012-2023)
This review aims to illuminate the existing landscape, track its evolutionary trajectory, and uncover recurring themes and focal points through an in-depth bibliometric analysis of AI literacy-related research spanning 2012 to 2023. Using the data collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database, this study reveals: (1) six distinctive developmental paths emerged, and (2) ten discernible research themes took shape, with machine learning, data literacies, AI in education, and digital competences emerging as prominent focal points. These themes underscored the multifarious dimensions of AI literacy, ranging from technical aspects to ethical considerations and educational applications. Additionally, the progression of keywords within these clusters provided insights into the evolving priorities of research. This review contributes to a comprehensive understanding of AI literacy’s evolving landscape, shedding light on its implications for education, ethics, and society.
