Electric Vehicle Charger for Enhanced Efficiency Performance
This research work investigates the novel bidirectional isolation DC-DC converter in respect of its design, modelling, and performance evaluation, which will serve as an interface for DC networks and storage applications. The research will also explore possible applications in battery management systems for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. The proposed power system facilitates two-way energy transfer, supporting both battery process i.e., battery charging and battery discharging based on State of Charge (SoC) and power movement needs. In grid-connected mode, it functions in step-down mode to replenish the battery, whereas, when grid power is unavailable, it transitions to step-up mode, delivering energy to the DC load. Such a feature is of utmost importance in renewable energy generation systems such as solar, where stability of energy retention governs the reliability of the grid, the two processes being charging and discharging. To control the regulation of voltage and therefore charge flow throughout the operation of charging and discharging, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is utilized for enhanced performance. MATLAB Simulink simulations confirmed the successful operation of the system in maintaining energy transfer balance between EV batteries and the grid. The steadystate management of energy exchange between the EV charging infrastructure and the grid enhances power usage while addressing critical problems concerning renewable energy storage and grid interconnections. This is indeed a milestone for green energy development.
